Where are you coming into - Wher are you going? If your coming into a mainline station you shouldn't have any trouble getting a black cab
I've always found it depends where you are. In the city centre it will be dead easy. Just look for the ones that have the Taxi sign on the top of the car lit up. If the light is off it means they are not available.

thanks, but we will be tootling around a bit and I am researching options....
They're probably the most expensive way to get round London too.
Don't know where your think ing of "tootling" but I wouldn't do it by cab, unless your last name is Gates or Branson.

If its during the day I would suggest an Oyster card/ or one day travel card and use public transport. It will be quicker and cheaper.
You are never far (in Central London) from any main street that a cab will go down - I wouldn't worry too much. And some black cabs have radio control, so stay away from mini cabs

tis a special trip so my piggy bank can take it...lol
I'd agree with the one day travel card suggestion and get about on the tubes or buses

Black cabs will cost you a fortune.

thanks ABers.....as usual you are a fountain of info
outside the West End and City of London, and outside working hours, they can be quite hard to find. They're especially rare south of the river. That's why minicabs exist. But minicabs can be untrustworthy (or downright dangerous). They're usually just local businesses - if you're staying at a hotel, ask at reception. I've used this one a lot:
