Hard Drive Recorder????????????

Hi,
I want to buy a hard drive recorder, if that is the name for it. I want to be able to watch a programme on TV while I tape another one.
Any help greatly appreciated. I just got lost with all the technical jargon out there.

Sky + if you have Sky. Freeview + if you have Digital Terrestial. or a DVD Recorder with twin tuner.

I have a Sky HD recorder - it gives 250 GB of recording space - not really enough space if you want to record what's available on a regular basis but don't want to spend your life catching up on what you missed. You will have to be selective about what programmes you record on a regular basis.

Sky boxes offer the option of recording the whole series with just one click rather than having to set up weekly. You will have the option of recording 2 programmes at any one time [a twin tuner box] or else watching a programme and recording a programme.

You will, however, be able to record 2 programmes and watch another PRE RECORDED programme.

If there are a lot of programmes you want to record it is worth checking for the alternative times they are shown - sometines there are recording / viewing clashes that can be avoided if you record something at a time that you are not otherwise watching television.

The advantaghe of watching a pre-recorded programme is that you can fastforward through the adverts. I now prefer to record commercial programmes and watch them on playback so that I can avoid the averts.this way.

An alternative is to get a DVD recorder [check out FUNAI] - they are now cheap and I would recommend a - this way you are not limited to the amount you can record and DVDs are cheap to buy in bulk.

Best price comparison site is Google Products or MegaShopBot.

I don't know if they are available, ['google' consumer reports on TV settop boxes - or similar] but a settop box with a USB connection that would allow you to download content to a computer would be an advantage [as an alternative] - recorded films could then be stored elsewhere and not take up space.

At a minimum you will want 250 GB hardrive of storage. And delete anything you have't watched within 6 weeks - because it is unlikely that you ever will. You'll surprise yoursel

not everybody want sky !
the model i chose above is a good freeview dvd recorder with hard drive to maybe record one prog, while viewing another, ive had one for years an not been one problem (an LG)
i also have a twin drive 500gb humax now, freeview and hi deff but they are £300,
i dont want sky either
