I have Adobe programs on my PC but don't know what they are for or whether I really need them. The two most recent are Adobe Flash Player 10 and Adobe Shock Wave Player 11.5. What is their purpose? Am I supposed to use them in some way and what, if anything, would happen if I uninstalled them? (I use Foxit reader for pdf files.) Thanks for any advice.

Flash and Shockwave are both used by many web sites to show fancy images and graphics.

If you deleted them then the next time you visited a web site that used them you would be asked to reinstall them.

Why are you thinking of deleting them anyway?

Thank you VHG. I probably won't delete them, but didn't understand their purpose and wondered if they were just unnecessary clutter. Images that move about on the screen are an irritation as far as I am concerned and I'd rather be without them.

I guess you don't watch TV much then.

You're quite right rojash - I don't watch much TV but can at least choose the programme. Irritations on the PC screen often have no connection with the subject I wish to see.
