Within the last few days, I have started to hear the sound of someone else typing whilst I am online. I use a laptop and have a security-enabled wireless connection. The sound comes and goes. On one occasion, I also heard about 20 seconds of music, that definitely did not seem to be triggered by me. Could someone explain this phenomenon to me? Am I getting some kind of interference from another user?

is your wifi picking up radio signals (is that possible)? Our baby alarm used to pick up the local taxi firm's broadcasts.
We'll send a car to pick you up.
Take more water with it

Ghosts.
Given how long you have been a member here, the interference is coming from you yourself
Are you using Virgin broadband?
Are you using their security software?
If so, uninstall Windows 9 and revert to Windows 8.
Are you opening multiple windows and one of them gets a noisy pop up advert when you aren't looking?
Could this be your good memory, or just your imagination? I sometimes imagine things, so this could be it, other than that it could be very thin walls.
Maybe it's the AB Ed listening in
Ah, now there's a thought, factor! i was just thinking, how long, oh lord, how long?
You can't get interference from an encrypted wireless network that would result in you hearing sounds that could be attributed to specific things like keystrokes or music playing. Interference on a wi-fi network is handled at a hardware level and as a client the network, you will only see interference as reduced data throughput and signal level.

It's possible you have something on your PC that's doing this. Before checking yourself into the loony bin, go to http://www.malwarebytes.org/ and download the free version of the program. Install it, update it, and then run a quick scan and see if anything is detected and removed.
This is a known conflict between Virgin Media Security and Windows 9.
