I've been told by a friend that I should not open my SPAM Box at all. At present I look in it as there are sometimes e-mails in there from people I know. I had assumed this was an error, she says it's because there's something dodgy about the e-mail, possibly a virus. Is she correct? Any advice please?

Of course you can look in the SPAM folder to check if any genuine emails are in there.

What you should not do is actually open any emails that are obviously spam (and this includes them showing in a preview pane if you are using outlook or similar)
