Bonafide call?

I had an international call today from a chap called Eddie (or so he said). He said he worked for Microsoft and it had been brought to his attention that I was having problems with my computer running slow and freezing (I am, as it happens, but I guess lots of folk are).

He then told me to switch on the computer while he did some checks. I was having lunch at the time, and I have a suspicious nature .... summat just didn't seem right. So I thanked him for the call and told him I was busy, but would attend to the matter another time.

When I told my OH about this, he said that the call could have been bonafide. Anyone any thoughts on this?

Thanks all. x

That's what I thought, hc.
its a scam mrs c.

you did the right thing to say you were busy and leave it.

how would he know your computers running slow??

i think there was a similar post on here ages ago, and the caller wanted the ABer to pay for their 'service' and they unfortunately gave their credit card details over the phone to them ..
This is a scam, Mrs. Chappie, it's been raised on here before. Don't do anything, they want to get you to spend money. Microsoft have got better things to do that phone individual users!

Thanks all. I'm so glad I followed my instincts. Got suspicious when he said his name was Eddie (he sounded Indian to me).
My dad got this call too and after 20mins or so fiddling with his computer they tried to get him to part with £180 for their software

Thanks very much karen. x
I am sad to say you need to be suspicious of ANY call you get on your phone nowadays (unless it is from a friend or relative you know of course).
I have caller ID and if I don't know the number I don't answer. If it's important they can leave a message, otherwise they can forget it :)
