The other end will go into a HD box, such as Sky HD or a Blu Ray player.

She's probably talking about a HDMI lead which cost nowhere near that much. Any electrical store will sell them.

Ok. When I plug it into the TV with one end where does the other end plug into?

And dont listen to anyone that says you will get a better picture if you use an expensive lead, for shortish lengths (under about 20m) there is no benefit at all from buying an £70 HDMI cable.
Even if you have a HD tele you wont see HD unless the signal going IN to the TV is HD.

This can either be from a Sky HD box, Virgin HD box, Freeesat HD box, or a BluRay player (I think that covers it all).

If the signal is coming from anything else (normal Sky+ box, normal DVD player etc) it will NOT be HD.
And if your sister WAS told she needed to pay £70 for a HDMI cable then whatever shop it was was LYING to her. She should demand her money back.

You can get a HDMI cable for betwen £10 and £20.
"You can get a HDMI cable for betwen £10 and £20."

You'd still be paying well over the top (by about 10times)

Hi all, thanks for your helpful replies.

I have a Sky HD box - would I have to pay an extra fee to allow HD or do I get this automatically?
If you subscribe to Sky HD you will receive whichever package you have agreed to receive from Sky. Just connect HD Box to TV by means of HDMI Cable.........You should have received a viewing card from Sky

Ok. Thank you all for you help. I've just ordered a HDMI cable from Amazon as recommended by Chuckfickens - I will let you all know if it improves the picture quality.

Thanks
