While I appreciate that many people need this sevice, I don't and find the man or women in the corner of the screen very distracting, so is there any way of switching it off?

look away & just listen.......it's for the deaf - be thankful you're not deaf!
Watch the programmes at their original show time instead of the late night repeats with signing.
Further to the other 2 answers, both of which are valid, I do know what you mean. I've been to sign language classes but I find it distracting too. It really is possible, with determination, to train yourself to ignore it though. Have a go!
I always wonder why they have this person signing on the programmes, when all the programmes that I have seen have the option of using subtitles through sky or teletext (and yes I know not everyone has sky or teletext but the majority do, I would like to know the number of deaf people who watch these programmes with no access to subtitles)

Thanks for your input everbody. I realise that the "Man" must be a god send to viewers with hearing problems, I just thought there might be a way of switching it on or off
The signing person is only on the late night repeats. Either watch or record the earlier show and you won't get the signing.
