Windows defender help pls

I hace Vista home premium in the last few days I've turned on and found windows defender off . Not changed any settings . Rub scans , any ideas?

Have you checked it? If you can't find it, type windows defender in the search box, click on it, and check settings.

Yes , when I select icon in notification area another small window opens with open & turn on defender , select that & I'm in . Also can open from start menu . Strange behaviour
