Uninstall SP-2 in add/remove programs.
I have Ulead Video 8 and SP2.  Works OK on my Samsung camcorder.  Have you tried unistalling Ulead and re-installing it (after getting SP2 installed)?
Or checking each of the 3 manufacturers' websites to see if they have any updates to their software (ULEAD & Roxio) or drivers (Canon) to get round any SP2 problems. Personally, I would not uninstall SP2.
This is worth a try. XP treats the firewire port as a network port so it may have firewalled it.
Right-click on My Network Places and choose properties, if in the status column it says Firewalled, do this
Right-click on the 1394 connection and choose properties
Go to the advanced tab, and click the Settings button.
In the WIndows firewall dialog that pops up, go to the advanced tab.
Untick 1394 connection, then OK everything.
I hope this helps!
