The author recommends the Radeon based card, plus you get halflife 2 free, I am playing it at the moment, and I can thoroughly recommend it.

However, the rest of your PC will need to be of fairly high spec - big hdd, quality motherboard, fast CPU and plenty of ram.

But the nVidia card is a higher spec: 256 vs 128 MB, 425 vs 500 MHz (OK slightly lower) and 256 vs 128 bit. It is just whether the FX 5700 chipset is better than the 9600TVD and as mattie rightly states: the Radeon card performs better.
