What do I do with SUB. and IDX Files?

I have a divx copy of the film Hero but it has no English subtitles when I watch it. I'm guessing the IDX and SUB files have something to do putting subtitles in the film but I don't know how to use them.

Provided the idx and sub files are in the same directory as the movie, some players will show them. Jet audio does. Apparently you need to configure media player:
