I saw a disc in my local shop for Norton Anti Virus 2005.  Does anyone know if I can load this now or do I have to wait until 2005.   Second question, will this have to be uninstalled and a new one loaded for 2006.    These may seem silly questions but I really do not know.   I do not have a Visa card so cannot download Norton Anti Virus over the internet.    I did ask this question this afternoon and it was accepted but somehow it has disappeared. Help.

download a free anti virus like AVAST its better than norton and its free, good luck.

In answer to your question though, Ember.  No, it will work before 2005 and you will not have to replace it in 2006.  It's merely a title for their latest release.  Much like Windows 98 which will still work today in 2004.

However, like all Virus programmes you will have to keep the programmes list of viruses up to date, and for that you must pay a yearly subscription, so you would probably need a credit card to update that. (You would probably get the first year included with your purchase).

If it all seems too complex, follow The Bikers advice and download a free Anti virus programme.

If you really think you are getting a better deal with a free program then good luck....

Personally, I am still using Norton 2002 and (touch wood) I have never had a virus. Make sure you keep it up to date though.

Yep, you get what you pay for!!! I dread to think whats on the computer that runs a free virus program... Still, better than nothing.

Headtime is correct.  You get 12 months of antivirus protection included in the price you pay for the product.  This will start from the point that you install & regsiter the product.  After that you renew your subscription every 12 months online.

Just wanted to say that you don't strictly need a credit card.  You can use a delta (i.e. debit) card or switch card or solo card.  If you haven't got any of these you'll either have to give a friend the money & ask them to enter their card details or buy a new product every year (which is more expensive than just renewing).

If you're thinking of using a free product to save a few pounds (roughly equivalent to the price of one tank of petrol) - just ask yourself the question: if the software is any good, why are they giving it away?  In my opinion, there's no such thing as a free lunch.

I followed the on-line instructions for Norton Anti-Virus cover, giving my bank details, etc. It showed the transaction was successful & that I had cover. The next day, Norton was still reminding me that it had expired & keeps asking for my details. I have e-mailed Norton, but have have never received a reply!. Where did all my personal & bank details got to I wonder?

smudge if your transaction was successful you should have recieved an automatic email from Symantec with something like 'Symantec Subscription Order Confirmation: Order #blahblahblah' in the subject field.  If not (assuming there's nothing wrong with your email) it either didn't go through or your bank didn't honour the payment.  Check with your bank & click here: http://renewalcenter.symantec.com/storefront/help

Thank you all for your help, I shall go ahead and purchase the disc.    Stoo-pid are you sure you can order Norton Anti Virus on line using a Switch I tried this in the past and it was not acceptable. Love

Hi Ember. I used a Switch card the first time I renewed & now I use Visa Delta so unless they've changed things in the last couple of months you should have no problems.  (Having said that I've just tried the online shop to double-check but the link seems to be down at the moment.  I would suggest quickly trying this link before you pop to the shops so you can be certain http://www.symantecstore.com/eu/renewal)
