Why dont microsoft include dvd software with windows? you have to buy it seperatly. I have Power DVD 5 at the moment - are there any better ones out there?

I would say that DVD is much more profitable than CD, as the CD format has been around much longer, so thus MS are not willing to "bundle" this into Windows.

Plus, there is still no one single format for writing DVD. There are several standards that different DVD companies use and as yet the writing format is still in discussion. In competition you have Sony, Philips, Panasonic all with their own format for writing.

 

I suggest you can try a blu-ray player. It integrates Blu-ray, DVD and all types of HD video formats into its functional list.Therefore, it will settle your problem.
