I need to raise up my flat screen TV on its existing table by approx 10 cms. It needs to stand on something approx 50 cms x 21 cms. I have looked at monitor stands but these all seem to be approx 30 cms square - any suggestions?

Go to a timber merchant and ask them for a piece of wood that size. 4 Argos catalogues? A DVD player?
Have you tried Yellow Pages?
you need something with a bigger footprint than the stand itself

the higher you go the less stable the base becomes ...
base size is calculated using the height and width of the object
If you increase the height you need to increase the depth of the foot to compensate the shifted centre of gravity
