At college, I have stragely managed to swipe my memory stick full of important college work. It would take me ages to re-do, so is there anything I can do or whether it is possible to restore the files i had?

DO NOT USE YOUR MEMORY STICK.

Download Restoration (4th down on Google search I did) or Recuva (both free). I personally tend to use Restoration. Install on your computer, plug in your stick and use the program to scan the stick. Save the files you want to your computer.

You will probably have to rename a lot of the files. I like Renamer (also free). When happy transfer back to your stick.
And in future DONT just keep your files on your memory stick.

Whenever you use you memory stick, create a folder on your hard disk with todays date (for example BU10NOV08) and COPY the files from the memory stick onto your hard drive.

If you do this every day (or every few days) you will gradually build up an archive of "backups" going back over the days and weeks.

That way you can recover any version of any file if you accidently delete a file or lose your memory stick.
