I would be pleased to have some advice, I have Windows XP and have had Norton but my subscription expired yesterday, for several weeks there has been an item blocking status and when I've pressed fix now has worked, so am wondering about renewing with Norton do I need it or would my laptop have a firewall or security with windows XP or could someone advise what is best one to get, and where best to purchase it from. Many Thanks.

AVG is a highly respected antivirus application. You can get a free basic one, a pro version or a complete security version. You can view the options here

XP's security is not reported to be the most secure but your modem will probably have a build-in firewall.

Other popular free security programs are Spybot and Adaware.
I`ve got the paid version of AVG (got it free for 12 months for signing up to something)
I can`t see any difference between the paid and free version.
I would just download free version of AVG, which includes anti spyware. If you want a firewall, download zone alarm free, which is better than windows firewall.
I had Norton 2 years ago & with 3 months still to run I received notification that it had expired & needed renewing, upon investigation I discovered the expiration date on my copy( you'll never believe this) was1805.I contacted Norton & after inumerable e-mails was informed that they couldn't do anything about it,after this they then wouldn't answer anymore e-mails.I cancelled my subscription,& on the advice of AB,ers I downloaded the free version of Avast & have never looked back. http://avast.s0ftware-uk.com/?s=gouk&a=avastuk &gclid=CIzF1vHgvJUCFQ1UQgodmDpVRA
