I know this is a 'how long is a piece of string' question, but how long should Duracell batteries last in a cordless mouse? Mine have only been in a couple of weeks and needed replacing. I thought they would have gone on and on and on.........

I had a cordless mouse for about 2-3 weeks and then like you, found that the batteries were flat, and ever since then it has been confined to the bottom drawer of my desk. Remember even whe your PC is off, the mouse batteries are still connected and must be consuming some power.
I have a Cordless Mouse and have used it for over a year, I know that this may seem a Tiresome thing to have to do but when you Shut Down your PC , remove the Batteries or only 1 battery, that way No Power is used . When you next go to your computer simply add the battery(s) and use you cordless mouse, that way your Duracell batteries will go On and On and On at least 2 to 3 months, dependent on how much you use your PC
I had a cordless mouse and cordless keyboard once.

Both were a nightmare.

Never again.
I have a cordless keyboard and mouse and find that I only have to change the batteries every few months. I'm sure, like all electrical goods, some use more power than others.
I have a Fujitsu Siemens cordless mouse (Model P6901). It takes two AA rechargable batteries. It comes with a charging cradle that connects to the mains, so the batteries can be charging even when the computer is off. In the unlikely event that the batteries should go flat (forgot to put the mouse in the cradle), you can connect the mouse directly to the cradle's PSU and continue working.
