thank you for all your earlier answers I now have all the info . the box saying system shutting down comes up with the words This shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM windows must now restart because the Remote Proceedure Call service terminated unexpectedly .It is a Packard Bell computor (not Patriot ) and is on windowsxp. I tried Shybears theory but it did'nt work

Sounds like you have the Claster virus to me. There is a microsoft patch for this and also many removal tools. Get the patch from microsoft at: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?Fa

s.list.html There are 2 variants of the virus that so you may also need the W32.Welchia removal tool. Good luck

Follow this link, www.grc.com and look for the dcombobulator (I kid you not). It is a small freeware program that closes the port which the blaster virus exploits.

Thanks travelcard I managed to follow your instructions and got rid of the bug . One thing I found though the internet reinstatement instructions did not work but I just had enough time to download the patch before my computor knocked itself off
