Link TV and Monitor

I've just bought a new LCD TV and I'm thinking of connecting it to my computer so I can have kind of a dual monitor thing. The TV has a S-VIDEO socket and a VGA socket. The only free socket in the back of my computer is labelled Serial 1. Would it be possible to connect everything up? What would I need to buy?
