why would you want to put it in backwards, unless you have ethels number of course.

This is an urban myth that is doing the rounds.

If you are in trouble at the cashpoint - a mugger is making you do it, for example - put your pin number in backwards - you get the money and the police respond to a 999 to appear like magic and arrest the mugger.

Total tosh, of course.
