Further to my question yesterday I have accessed Disk Management on XP, but am having trouble taking "ownership" of an external hard drive.

I am on the Disk Management screen and am right-clicking on the drive and selecting "properties" but can get no further than this...

I was told that I need to access "Security" from "Properties" then right-click "Advanced" then click on the "owner" tab.

Choose who you want as the owner and tick the box for "replace owner on subcontainers and objects"....and then ownership is taken.

I can't get further than "properties" can anyone help? Thanks.

You take ownership of folders and files, not the drive as a whole, so you would have to access the drive contents through my computer and take ownership of them.

Right click on file or folder, click security, advanced.

If you can't see the security tab -

To display the Security tab
Open Folder Options in Control Panel.
Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Folder Options.
On the View tab, under Advanced settings, clear Use simple file sharing [Recommended].
