If your computer meets the minimum requirements to run XP, then yes.

I would say you need 256 MB minimum memory (not 128 like microsoft say) 512 MB preferred. I would also say that any machine running windows 98 with 256 MB of memory is rarer than rocking horse ****. just go and buy a new machine with windows xp, they are so cheap now it is not funny.
j2button, I agree with your specs, the specs given by Microsoft are those needed to run windows, but of course we all want to run other programmes as well, play music, play with pictures, spreadsheets, write a letter to granny etc.

I was in PC world the other day and a friend of mine purchased a mid range PC for 399.00. My first PC I bought in 1996 had 8 megs of ram I had to upgrade it to 16 megs the following week, a less than half a gig HD, was second hand with win95 on it, I paid 750.00 and that was a good deal at the time. lol
I am in exactly the sma eposition as your self with windows '98 and would very much like a higher spec machine. Out of curiosity, my son enetered the Dell site and you then run through a series of things which you would like/not like and sort of build up your own machine, ie I don't download films/music or play games, so that means something. At the end, he said "that will suit you perfectly", and the set-up was about 300
