Sound card recording

Does anyone know of a program (preferably free) that I can use to record the sound passing through my sound card?

I want to record the audio from a video on youtube and cant figure out how to do it.

you could always use a mic to record the sound coming from your speakers using the sound recorder built into windows. failing like you could download a free trial of wavelab 4 or 5 off download.com

completely free--when installed and running u have the choice of recording from different sources--eg sound card-mic-line in etc--cheers

Thanks for the replies people. I eventually got one, but it isnt the best so I'll give those three recommendations a try.
