c-media ac97 on-board sound card

hi
i have a packard bell computer that has an c-media ac97 onboard soundcard it isn't producing any sound, in the device manager properties it says that "the device cannot start (code 10)". i have tried reinstalling the driver but still get the same problem.
does anybody know a solution to my problem.

Your PC will either have onboard sound (most likely if it is ac97 ) or a sound card. Which do you mean.
If is onboard, i.e. incorporated in the motherboard, is it enabled in the BIOS?
