What is my problem. I am using the new program Incredimail with all the 'bells and whistles'. It is not on auto startup, but when I open the program, it should connect to the internet through ADSL. It does not. And each time I go to tools/connections/properties/servers/incoming mail server I find that the incoming mail server is hilighted in green [ ready for change] and is 127.0.0.1, the address of my own computer. I then change this to my proper server address [ iinet.] and everything works fine. Why won't it stay changed. Every time I close down and restart, there it is again. That rotten 127. Any suggestions anyone. I'm desperate.

I can't help you with that particular query, sorry, but I was a big fan of Incredimail - used it for a long time - until I discovered it was keeping one of my ports open, which is a big security risk.

I uninstalled it. It does slow your pc down and is very annoying for those receiving emails.

Usually the reason that your mail program decides that its server address is 127.0.0.1 instead of what you tell it, is because of AntiVirus software.

Are you running some AV sofware (we hope so !) and does it have an Email scanning function of some sort ?

If so, you may have to reconfigure it and tell it your server addresses - POP3 and SMTP etc. Again, I'm not familiar with the particular product you are using.

Perhaps give Thunderbird a go instead:

Have you tried 'googling' "incredimail 127.0.0.1" ?? It came up with these as starters (John?):-

That "ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1" entry isn't anything to be concerned about. See
this page....
