I'm still having problems with music download sites.I can download them onto my computer but they just don't open.I was wondering if it's because I'm behind a firewall.Got in touch with Norton Antivirus and they told me to disable Internet Worm Protection but this hasn't helped. Can anyone tell me what I can do please? I'm using Windows ME and my ISP is Tesco Broadband.

And where are you downloading from?

Have tried Limewire WinMx BitTorrent. They have downloaded but will not open.

Have you ever managed to play music files on your PC?

It may be that you either don't have the correct software needed to play these files, or the file association is incorrectly set.

Select a music file, right click on it and select OPEN WITH and go for Windows Media Player.
See what happens.

I have windows media player and it plays music files that I downloaded previously, but since I changed my ISP I cannot download music files as the actual music sites won't open. The Icons are on my desktop, I double click on them to open-----nothing.I right click on them and then click open-------nothing.

OK, are the files mp3 format?
Right click on your desktop icon, select properties and check that they are mp3 and they have a file size in MB. Could be anything from 2MB upwards.

Could be the icons on your desktop are shortcuts, not actual music files - we need to establish what you have first.

Dear sparkyharky, I know you are trying your best to help me but nobody is understanding what I am saying and I don't know how to explain, but I will try again. The icons on my desktop are not music files, they are for the music sites ie Bittorrent Limewire etc. These are the ones that won't open so I can't get on the site to download music.I have been downloading music for years but I think it must be something to do with my ISP as I have never had this problem before when I was on NTL or AOL.

Well it's taken me most of the day but at last I have found the answer.I had removed a programme called J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3 from my computer thinking it was something I didn't need and it turns out I did need it after all !!!
yea that's java. some bitTorrent clients like azureus are written in java and need it, as does limewire.
