If I buy a DVD recorder with a hard drive, do I need it to have a built in freeview box in order to select specific programmes to record? (rather than the old-fashioned method of setting a time and channel). I already have a TV with built in digital tuner but I'm not sure if that helps, since the DVD recorder would feed the TV, not vice versa. many thanks!

Check the specification for EPG - some do have it now. That's probably only for the analogue channels though?
