Have been using my debit successfully (it is only a month old since I changed banks) anyway there have been a few times when I go to buy something and then after inserting my payment details - I get sorry your card has been declined.  Now there is enough money in the account.  Can anybody tell me why this happens.  Thanks

JJ, have you used your card at an ATM to withdraw money?

No idea but I think that you should contact your bank and query this.

yes - a few times

Every so many transactions it does this, mine does too so I have to insert it rather than tap it and put the pin number in,  told it's a security thing

JJ does it work if you insert the card and put your pin in?

When this happens do you try the payment again?  It's really easy to make a mistake when entering the card details on line. Every so often my card is declined at a checkout when using it without putting the PIN number in. Apparently this is a security feature and if you re-present the card using the PIN number it works

Do you have a limit on how much you can use on the card each day. The card might be declined if you have gone over that limit.
You might have put in an incorrect number

some times it is a bank error. Have you tried calling the bank when this has happened sometimes the bank have no record of this happening

Is this happening online or in a shop? If in a shop, when you pay by tapping your card or inserting it and using your PIN?

The only time my card has been declined is when I have used it for quite a huge amount of money.

The last time it happened was when I was paying a deposit on a new bathroom.

There was enough money in my account, but I had to phone the bank to confirm it was genuine.

well just to let you know that I run over to my bank and she knew right away.  you know that I changed banks 2 months ago and the new bank should have put a password on her end (bank) and the guy who was helping me forgot to do this.  The girl inserted the password unbeknown to me however and I came back and was able to successfully order the items.

Glad that you're sorted now.
