Laptop Problem

I have a fairly old Lenova Ideapad33OS. It is refusing to type the numerical key "zero"/"open brackets" and now it is refusing to type the numerical key "nine"/"close brackets" as well. I have taken the keypad's top layer off, cleaned and replaced, still no joy.

Can anyone help or is it destined for landfill? Many thanks.

Do all the other numerical keys work?

I've never had much joy when trying to repair a dodgy keyboard. I've usually ended up having to replace it altogether.

With some laptops, replacing a keyboard is an absolute doddle, taking just a few minutes.  With others it can be a real pain in the posterior! Regrettably, Lenovo laptops seem to fall into the latter category.  (I'm typing this on a Lenovo ThinkPad, which I purchased to replace an identical one with a dodgy keyboard after my cat threw up all over it! Replacing the keyboard on the original laptop looked to be far trickier than I would have been happy to attempt).

If you're prepared to give it a go though, a secondhand keyboard can be purcased for around £14

. . . and there are several YouTube videos providing instructions, such as this one:

All the other keys do work. The zero was the first to, which I could almost manage without, but the nine is part of my bank card so is a must! Thanks for your input both of you.

I think I will fork out for a new one as I'm not confident of fixing it. It owes me nothing.

Thanks again

Thanks for your reply.

If I was looking for a decent budget laptop right now, I'd certainly consider this:

You could consider buying a mini-keyboard, either wireless or connected by USB and avoid throwing the laptop away.
