Strangeness & No Charm...

This is relevant to both my PC & laptop (both running W10) & in Firefox, Edge & Chrome.  Only AB is showing the symptoms.

For the last 3 days, when I open a thread the page loads slightly down from the top then jumps back up.  I'll try to explain with some snippets -

This is what the top of the page looks like on loading - https://ibb.co/M5mfF9Q - note the gap between the faint top line & the dark line (Bookmarks bar).

After a few seconds the page flicks back to normal - https://ibb.co/dDncJ8P

If I refresh the tab (in Edge or Chrome, not Firefox), it jumps to this - https://ibb.co/68hwyjd - and a scroll brings it down.  Refreshing the tab in Firefox gives me pic 1 then pic 2.

Everything's fully updated, I've tried the browsers in "Safe" mode (add-ons & extensions disabled), have cleared all the caches, & restarted the PC.  SpareEd has told me via email that the techies haven't altered anything.

Is this really just happening to me?  If that's a "yes", can anyone suggest where I go from here?  It's very irritating & I want it to stop.  Now.  Forthwith.

All sensible suggestions welcomed 🤔🙂

Apologies for lack of para breaks, they don't work in Q's, only A's.

It looks like where it resizes for the Ad (That you wont see being a member).

I could be wrong but I got Edge to do it after clearing down so it didnt recognise me.

Question Author

Hi ymb - it happens with or without an ad-blocker, which isn't on for AB anyway & having cleared the cookies for AB in all 3 browsers, it persists.

Not just you - I never noticed it until I tried just now.  I'd say its definately thinking about loading something.

Question Author

Thanks Tuvok, nice to know I'm not alone...🙂

Now you know it's there, isn't it annoying?  I can't think why anything would be looking to load up there, though...

Sorry didnt explainmyself properly.  It is nothing to do with an adblocker.  The site appears to  build the page for an ad, then remove it if not required causing the page to resize.

Now I might be wrong as I dont have the code to hand nor the time to look but if was debugging this that is where I wouldl start.

Question Author

ymb - ta, I get all that.  I was never a coder (easy life they had 🤐🤭), I just kept machine rooms running.  Out of interest, are you seeing what I've described?  So far it's myself & Tuvok - how does that work?  Does not compute...😖

Heigh-ho, the bar's open, that'll help 😜

"easy life they had"  Haha, not always so measy!

Yes, I see the same using Edge(I dont use it normally) . My Chrome is configured differently and I see a sideways jerk.  Which is sort of odd.

Try the Brave browser.

Question Author

Barry - I shouldn't have to try Brave & won't.  This has only started happening recently on 3 browsers I've been more than happy with.

ymb - if someone with your experience thinks it's "sort of odd", I'm going with something at AB Towers has changed & SpareEd (& the techies) are unaware of it.

You did ask for any suggestion LiK.  Trying yet another browser does not involve a lot of effort and is zero risk, but it's up to you, of course.

I'm currently using Edge to post this but if I wanted to post a link I use Brave as the links don't post properly in Edge for me.

If the AB techies had made changes that affect browsers, everyone who is using Firefox, Edge and Chrome would have the same problems you are having.  I have opened AB in all three and they are behaving as they should.

Question Author

Barry - I appreciate that another browser is an option, but it shouldn't be necessary.  However, as your post suggested that I should try harder, I downloaded Brave & oh, look - exactly the same behaviour, though I grant it's faster at losing the extra space at the top of the screen.

Links post properly for me in the 3 browsers I named in the OP.

I said in the OP that the AB techies hadn't made any changes & your "...would have the same problems you are having." speaks to my point.  Two people have since seen the same behaviour, so I'm glad that it isn't just me.

Next?

Sorry it didn't work for me.

Can you tell me why links don't work for me in Edge?

This is my Edge link problem

Gaynor Lord police say she did not meet anyone before she vanished: Officers rule out 'third party involvement' but say they are 'keeping an open mind' as body is found in Norwich river in hunt for missing mother-of-three | Daily Mail Online

Question Author

Hi Barry - I've come over to Edge & hope this is the right link?  I just copied the URL & pasted it -

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12868657/Gaynor-Lord-police-say-no-evidence-party-involvement-body-Norwich-river-hunt-missing-mother-three.html

Yep, it works in Brave but not in Edge, for me.  Peculiar

Question Author

Aye, tis odd.  Something that works for me in Edge doesn't work for you.  Everything's sort of mucked-up, but none of it makes much sense.

Still no closer to solving my original problem though...😣

Copying links and YTube tunes has become a nuisance since the childish emoji facility was added. If You want to copy a web address(link-url) or YTube the only way to be sure is to only copy the bit off the site address from www onwards. Ignore the https:// bit at the beginning(that is in a lighter shade) and type that first in the answer box on a new line. Then paste the url that you copied beginning www. immediately after that with no space.

To the original question. W10 Edge(version 22H2 64Bit KB5033372). Desktop. I just get a barely perceptable little jump and the header goes straight to LiK's second image. I is almost unnoticable unless you are on point looking for it. Guess what   ...   I am now bleedin looking for it. 🙄
