The subject today on radio was toilet paper.  What's wrong with squares cut from old newspapers?

Recycling at its best.

Nothing wrong with it, wiped my backside plenty of times with a Guardian when on site -  its free often!

No problem with that before flush toilets but put the paper in a bin and not down the loo.  We used newspaper when we had run out of Izal years ago and the used paper went on the compost.

Newspaper is better than Izal.  Izal just spreads it around.

I have an old Izal dispenser hung in my garage.

You was using the wrong side of the Izal.

Modern narrow lateral drains would block instantly with newspaper...and so would all public sewers (and sewage works wouldn't cope either).

All the news that's *** to print.

The trouble with wiping your backside with copies of the Guardian is that you get more *** off the paper than what it wipes.

One should remember to be left-leaning when wiping for optimum cleansing.

It's not hygenic, it's not effective, it gets newsprint all over you and your underwear, and it blocks the drains.

In days of old when Knights were bold and paper was not invented.

They wiped their ass on a blade of grass and rode off quite contented.

^. Reasons enough there to give the newspaper idea a thunderous, 'No'.

Given that I mainly read the newspaper on my laptop it could work out expensive, uncomfortable and not very efficient.

Not really any different except now metric. My 120 year old house has similar size to my mates new build. Main drains are often smaller though but more efficient than they used to be if installed correctly.

The real problem is fat, nappies and wetwipes.  Paper will disintegrate very quickly and wouldnt be a massive problem unless you used the whole thing.  But then if you use the whole bog roll it will clog up.

Damn Barry, all those years in the school Kharsi using the wrong side Barry 😀

One was for grip, the other for polish :D

Nice image!!

'Grip'???!!!

Grips normally after you have had a chicken Naga.  Mind you I woldnt want newspaper or Izal after that!

If I remember correctly Izal was used in the outside lavvy (all we had at school - that what you get for a private education) because the soft stuf absorbs the damp in the winter.

Best thing since sliced bread, says who?

I thought was gonna be the latest Israeli peace plan for Gaza

boom boom ! thx to roland rat

note to Mods: miss miss he made me do it!

Ahh we have movement again. The only thing Izal was fit for was wrapping around a hair comb and buzzing a tune out of it. My granny used to cut the newspaper that had been used to wrap the Fish n Chips up and put it on the nail that was hammered into the whitewashed outside loo. It was a bit crinkly and greasy and if you were quick, warm as well.

young, I didn't know there was soft loo roll when I was growing up - we only had an outside, home to spiders and silverfish.

In the late 1940s ft toilet paper went on the market but it was a luxury for many.  My parents didn't convert until the mid 70s.
