Hi,
I will soon be having an engineer call from Plus net to install the above. I assume he will want to fix the terminal through the wall on the ground floor, but my PC is situated upstairs in my 'office'. It is currently plugged into a normal phone socket in an upstairs room via a phone line extension lead. But how will it work with the new set-up, I cant move my PC downstairs!

You can install either a WiFi card inside your pc or a WiFi dongle if your computer isn't WiFi enabled
or add an Ethernet socket upstairs.
Tell him to install it on the wall where your office is. I did this with VM (no problems at no extra cost. It is the same as the guys fitting a supply to a 1st floor flat. They have ladders.
I was in the same situation as the OP. My solution was a pair of powerline adapters - an ethernet cable from the router to oneplugged into a nearby socket and another ethernet cable plugged into the computer and the other adapter. There is a great variety of adapters available; different speeds and with/without mains passthrough if you have a shortage of electrical sockets. Another option is to fit a wi-fi card to your computer which is very simple to do.
The engineer will probably be from Openreach. I suspect he will upgrade your current connection, but it will enter your house in the same way as before.

Thanks for all the answers folks! Currently my PC is situated in a back bedroom, connected to the phone socket in the front bedroom via a phone extension cable which I ran under the carpet. Will this phone lead carry the superfast broadband for that last little bit of the journey?
When I went to fibre broadband the BT engineer disconnected all my extensions ie, only the master socket worked.
If you are only changing your supplier then you should still be able to connect as you do now ir via telephone ext cable
I think that Inpret-Sir has decided to go down the wifi route, bhg & Cleggie. Good decision I feel.
