I have a doctors app tommorrow, which i made convinced i had arthritis in my hands which flared up badley on holiday (hot country). I couldn't get an appointment for a week! and now back in the freezing cold, my hands are fine. I also get severe pains on the bottom of my feet, like they are bruised, i cannot lose weight for love nor money and am borderline PCOS (polysystic ovaries). I'm convinced all of these are linked, but what should i be asking the doctor - any ideas appreciated. x

If I were you don't suggest to the doctor that you think there is a link etc. In my experience doctors don't seem to like patients making suggestions! I have an underactive thyroid. I remember going to the doctor to ask if I could possibly have a thyroid test as I felt I might have an underactive thyroid. He got in a right mood with me for daring to suggest I knew what was wrong with me!

If I were you I'd write a list of all the symptoms and things that are worrying you. Give it to the doctor and explain which symptoms have been a recent problem and which have been around a while. Then hopefully he/she will see a connection.

Say what you've said in your mail - it is clear. Be insistent that you think all your problems are linked, and that you would like them thoroughly investigated.

I really sympathise. I hate to say it but I have had the best reponses from doctors when I have taken an older man with me, you don't get brushed off so easily. Worth a thought for the future if it doesn't go well tomorrow.

I'm also of to the doctors tomorrow - and I'm preparing to stand my ground! I hope I won't be having to go back at a later date with my dad or husband in tow.

you could ask for some blood tests, thyroid leveles, general full blood count, plus e.s.r. and c.r.p. (indicates inflammation = arthristis or infection) how old are you? maybe you could ask to be tested for diabetes, blood pressure as well
My mum's arthritis always flared up in the summer months, her legs and hands would swell up, she also had freezing cold and sore feet which later was diagnosed as diabetes, just ask for a blood test and say you have some concerns. They'll probably blame your weight (if you are over weight), as they blame everything on that.

they're all problems that i can live with, but I'm just fed up of them esp flaring up on holiday! My doctor is good and i like him, just going to the doctors makes me feel as though i am 10 years old and going to see the headmaster!
