Not really serious questions, just some idle musing based on two events yesterday.

Firstly while driving in an unfamiliar area I came across one of those "New road layout ahead" signs - they seem to stay in place an inordinately long time in areas I know.

Secondly, when a store assistant told me an item I was after was out of stock, upon my further enquiry she told me they were expecting a delivery "later". Then yet further enquiry on my part revealed that later meant 5 days later.

Funny old thing, language.

I’ll tell you what’s new. But not until later.
New - Paying for it.
Later - when it's paid off.
Soon, that's another flexible one.
Yes can be so misinterpreted when written.
It took me a long time to get used to what some Brits mean by 'later'. To me it meant within the next few hours...to them it seemed to mean 'whenever. Drove me nuts.
Hi Pasta
Nearly is quite sneaky.
Cheap charity shop stuff is always new to me, if it doesn't fit, it goes back later.
Hi Tony...*pasta waves*
'In a minute' is a very elastic term too.
Manyana......
New is like buying a new car
But as soon as you drive off the forecourt , it's no longer new
