I would guess that it would depend on whether the contract had been signed.
If all the paperwork was signed accordingly, then he was a Cardiff player and yes they should pay up.
The plane crash, in my opinion, would not influence in anyway the contract of the transfer and such Nantes need their money.
However this may be modified if there was a clause in the contract which said that should the player never play for Cardiff, for any reason, then the contract is null and void. That clause, I would doubt would never be inserted.
I'd say the footballer belonged to whichever club he was contracted to at the time. Any fees should be paid, and insurance and compensation claimed.
Having said that, it's sad to fight about money when a man has lost his life.
Judging by the outpouring of grief by the Cardiff fans in recent games, they believe he was one of theirs.
Surely they are insured for this sort of thing?
Cardiff are only withholding the initial payment until all documentation is clear.

Indeed, but business is business and life goes on after the death of a person however they are cherished.
Especially in the exspensive world of football ^

Cardiff should have insurance to cover it.
