I have a philips TV that is ex hotel.I want to connect it to my Freeview box but am not having any look.I think part of the problem may be that the remote doesn't have a "source" button

Taking a look at the user manual shows that there's no 'Source' option, per se. However accessing the Hotel Mode Setup Menu will get you to what appears in the manual as an 'Auto Scart' option. (Given that your set has got an HDMI socket, I suspect that you might find an 'Auto HDMI' option there instead). If that option is enabled your set should then...

"luck"
Lots of hotel TVs use cable connection to stop them being use in a home environment and to stop them being stolen

So does that mean I can't use it via my Freeview box ?
It depends on the connections on the back of the TV. Does it have an aerial socket, hdmi socket or scart socket?
A couple of thoughts:

Firstly, are you sure that there's not a 'Source' button? It's often marked by a rounded rectangle with an arrow going into it.

Secondly, have you tried selecting '0' as the channel number? That sometimes selects the external input.
It may be marked as TV/AV

Definitely no source button. There is an antenna and HDMI connection though. My partner was using this successfully through an aerial in his bedroom before he moved in with me.We have tried everything to get it to work with the Freeview box but to no avail. It comes up with the channel name and number at the top left but no picture.I think it might be getting introduced to the inside of the wheelie bin shortly
Is there a model number on the back of the set?
If your partner was successfully using it connected to an aerial before, can you not just do that?

Model number is 26HF5335D/05. .Hopkirk.We want to use it with our Freeview box to enable programmes to be recorded when we aren't in otherwise it wouldn't matter
