Does the receiver of a wireless battery charger have to be inside the case of
an iPhone 6s ?

No, but it needs to be connected to the lightning port.

Wireless charging is only available on iPhone 8s and iPhone Xs.

According to Amazon site wireless chargers for iPhone 6s are available therefore I need clarification prior to purchasing. Not being clear on modern technology I am not sure if I would merely have to connect the charger base to power and the receiver would sit between phone and case
