Try downloading Open Office. It's free and in my experience it's just as good as word, although I have not used art programs. Can't do any harm.

Word isn't available for free.

As has been indicated there are several freebies available which are just as good. The most popular (by far) is OpenOffice, which is what I use myself:

Unsure why folk ask where they might download commercial programmes for free.
It wouldn't be legal.
