I have a feeling that it sometimes records "Things we think you'll like" - there may be a setting to stop that function.

[ sorry for being vague - haven't currently got a Virgin TV box ]
Virgin boxes can remember programmes you've recorded and then record similar ones in the belief that you might like them.
bhg has it, If for instance you recorded the first series of a programme, the Tivo box will automatically record any future series,
Indeed, once recorded they will appear in the Tivo Suggestions folder, they don't make up part of the percentage used figure as they will be overwritten if the space is required. The whole 'suggestion's feature can be switched off if required or you can thumbs down individual shows to tell Tivo you're not interested. We discovered many shows we never knew existed by this method. It is fine tuned by your use of the thumbs up and thumbs down buttons so it narrows down the things it thinks you might like.
