Problem With E Mail

I have a problem with Yahoo e mail which means that I cannot write a message in the main body of the e mail but have to write all the information in the area normally used for the title.
I have seven year old Dell Inspiron 17 laptop using Windows 8.1 and the Service Provider is Virgin Broadband.
They do, however, charge a lot for software help and as an OAP on a basic State pension I am reluctant to use their help.
Any assistance you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Switch to another email provider. There are plenty around. You can import all your contacts.

As soon as I had written my request for help, I thought I would try it again.
After a week of being out of action it is now working.
