Apparently the new lcd tv's are better than the plasma one's nowadays

johntheplamf is right about LCD screens being better then plasma, but the size/cost ratio is better for plasma screens, i.e. a 37" (LG) LCD costs around 2200, but you can get a 42" (Hitachi) for 1700.

LCD's and plasma screens have different brightness and contrast capabilities - but plasma still has the upper hand on maximum viewing angle.

From experience, Toshiba and Panasonic make high quality screens, at a (relatively) low price. The main thing to be on the look out for is high definition. If a plasma doesn't have it (although most new models do), I wouldn't bother getting it.

I have heard that plasma screen have a very limited life spna, anybody else heard this?

i believe that a plasma's life is approx 10,000 hrs.so divide this figure by approx how many hrs per day you watch tv and you should see how long it will last.

as already stated lcd's are better than plasma but this quality comes at a price.whichever you plump for, ensure that it is hd ready for the onslaught of hi-def in the next year or so.also i have heard it said that sony made a big mistake by not pushing on with this technology and continued to hang their hat on crt tv's which has lost them lots of money ie sony lcd/plasma technology is not as advanced as some others.i believe sharp are the best for lcd at the mo with toshiba and panasonic being the leading plasma brands.

and for the record, crt tv's are still superior in picture quality but theyre not as cool !

crts give better resolution, higher luminence, and faster response time, and viewing angle.if you have the room they are an excellent deal.

plasmas, lcd etc really look at their best when flat against a wall.really stylish but they are still trying to improve their perfomance, and the prices are tumbling.if you can be uncool for a few months you'll save yourself a fortune, and probably get a better product.

my mate has had a panasonic for 5 years he is a telly addict and it still looks great.it did cost him 8000,so he is please its still going!!!

It is woth 4 to get the "What Plasma and LCD TV" magazine.
They are tested extensively and a big surprise to me when the one I nearly bought due to advertising was a duffer.
Sony and Panasonic come out well and LCD seems the best option.
