I have a personal website set up at a certain domain name.  Now the hosting is paid for for at least another year, but the domain name needs renewing this month but they are charging me a furtune for it - 3 times what I originally paid!

my question is, if I do not renew that domain name, and buy another at a cheaper price, how do I then get the site there?

Is it as simple as on the Remote Server information in Dreamweaver changing it from www.domaina.com to www.domainb.com?  If so then thats fine but if not can anyone tell me what needs doing?!!  Thank you!

Could be wrong, but I thought it was possible to re-register with anyone offering the service, not just your host. (Assuming you own the name and not them - you may also want to check the reputation of the "registrar", as www.weregisteryournameforcashinabrownenvelope.com may not be totally reliable!)

its a pretty reputable doman name seller, but I I got my domain for 6 for 2 years, and now they want 23 (ok not exactly a fortune but still is compared to 6!)

On other domain name sellers it just shows up as a registered name - I'm not sure how to renew it through anyone else but them...any ideas?!

Did a v. quick look around: re-registering with another firm doesn't seem to be a problem, but you appear to be getting a reasonable price. (Maybe you were on an "introductory offer", or maybe there's just been a general price rise!)
