I'm sure this has been asked loads of times, but I rarely use the internet, although I do need it from time to time. I'm currently with Virgin and I pay a total of £53 pm, if you include line rental. I know Virgin is reckoned to be the fastest, but that figure seems extortionate to me, so I'm looking to sign up with another provider. My grandchildren won't be pleased as they come to our house to take advantage of the fast broadband via wi-fi. What service do other AB'ers use? Are you satisfied with it? Comments welcome. TIA.

I use BT - I am fortunate to have my service free of charge because I work for the company.

That said, they are acknowledged as being one of the best for value - their coverage and service is premier because they are the biggest, and they are the innovators of broadband.

There are cheaper providers, but as in most things, you get what you pay for. A cheap service that crashes is no service at all. I have had minimal issues with my broadband since I have had it, which is since it was available.
lol AH

Do you work in their advertisement dept ?
I use a business-based (non-fibre) system which I'm very happy with but which I certainly wouldn't recommend on the basis of price. (It's far from cheap!)

However, as a Now TV user anyway, I'm feeling tempted by their 'combo' deals, where you can choose the speed you want and any additional components to go with it. It's actually Sky broadband rebranded (because Now TV is owned by Sky) but with a bit more flexibility built into it:

Bazile - no, and I'm not on commission either!

That is the one and only perk we have ever had - unless you count reduced share options, which I don't because I never bought them.

^^^ I pay £6 per month for the arrangement mentioned by Murdo. It only provides 500 minute per month (without additional charge), which averages out at just over a quarter of an hour per day. I can use it to connect to any BT broadband subscriber's Home Hub including, if I chose to do so, those of several of my neighbours. (BT Home Hubs provide two totally separate wifi signals. One is for the subscriber and the other is for anyone else in the area who uses BT).

Such a service might be useful for someone who simply wants to check their email (or check on train times etc) occasionally but it does rely on having a neighbour who uses BT broadband!

i'm on talk talk "simply broadband" £22.50 per month with line rental inc, unlimited internet access
this does not include any calls and as i only use my mobile that the reason i went on it as that only use very infrequently too ,
i keep missing "s" off my text.... DOH!
Talktalk are advertising fast broadband for £22pm and faster broadband for £27pm. both include line rental. Ive been with them for years and never had a problem.
Call virgin media and be polite. Just say you are having financial difficulties and need to review your outgoings. They might give you a discount.
I am at war in words with my other half she only watches BBC1 BBC2 and we have Virgin. She argues she wants it to watch winter sport on Eurosport. but sleeps through most of it sadly.

My argument is That Sarah (My other half ) is giving Virgin media £1000 a year + £150 TV license out of your pension for them to show us adverts. we were paying them £84 a month with phone calls

I phoned them complained I did not want the sport channels i want a basic package. And is there a basic package that has eurosport. They said nope its part of the sky sports package. I said whats the point of having virgin or sky. If you can not tailor the channels you want to your own needs.

Then it got heavy going. Virgin said you can have eurosport on its own with your package but its something like £8 99 a month. But he declined to tell us more about this. anyway From £84 i got my actual monthly bill reduced to £45 pcm .

You can not fault the Broadband its the best My speeds are terrific way above what i'm paying

You can get your Virgin bill dramatically lowered if you threaten to leave
