My computer is 5 years old, windows 7 and is always freezing itself. I keep getting offers to upgrade ton windows 10 for free. Is this a good offer ir will it cock it up even more?
Now I'm getting used to it I quite like it, didn't want it but I'm keeping it, it was a very smooth changeover (I slept right through it) and so far no problems.
Don't know what problem is with your PC so can't say if it would be as simple for you or not, but as a freebie it's looking good for me atm.
You need to sort out your freezing problem first - check your ram - try upgrading your drivers - in real terms 4gb is bare minimum for Win 10 - backup ALL your stuff - then do a custom install - if you need a full walkthrough just ask.
While the people who know these things are around can I ask a quick question please. I choose to upgrade to windows 10 and all went well but being given different advice as to whether I now need a anti virus programme or is the one built in to windows 10 sufficient. Thanks in advance..
No the Norton will turn off the MS - for your info you can get a multi licence version that will cover PCs tablets and phones - some very good clean up stuff to.
My computer died just before Christmas - it was always freezing and it had Windows 7. New laptop has Windows 10 installed - and it is always freezing (just done it whilst writing this and I gave up on it this morning)!
I also find myself severely limited with Windows 10 - can't do things I used to do easily and I know very well that I'm not the only one from talking in shops etc.. Many people want to get Windows 7 installed and I'm starting to look at that option.
Windows 10 system requirements
//Here’s what it takes to upgrade to Windows 10 on your PC or tablet:
•Latest OS: Make sure that you’re running the latest version – either Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 Update.•Find out which version you’re running

I have had w10 since the day after release. I have used xp, w7, w8, and w8.1.
W10 is by far the best. I know that hc had it pre release and has seen it develop. As long as you allow or set your pc to run the upgrades you will have no problems.
atalanat, my very techie son was saying the same to me. He is still running w7. Oh it is so sweet when he is here and on my pc and I am having to show him, after years of him being the 'go to' for advice he now picking my brains.
hc Just to start with, I can't find an address book - click onto mail and there is nothing whatever, I've tried, OH has tried - zilch!. I had to buy a little book from a local shop and am collecting email addresses in the old-fashioned way. grrrrr :(
