How Do You Address You In-Laws?

A family member expressed surprise that I addressed my in-laws by name and didn't call them Mother/Father, Mum/Dad or whatever.

I personally find it a little odd to refer to my husbands parents in this way and have always been bemused when I have encountered on TV or in real life.

Do many of you call your in-laws Mum or am I the odd one out?

Name, always.
By name - Mum/Dad is for my parents
When I was married I never ever called my in-laws as mum or dad. They'd probably fine it uncomfortable.

Have 2 BIL's and their partners, all first names
PIL no longer with us, but was always first names
I address them by their first name. It wouldn't feel natural to call them by anything else. MrAC calls my mother 'mum' or 'mummy' just to annoy her (it works), as they are only a few years apart in age and knew each other as kids.
don't think I ever called her anything..widow..I just spoke to her directly
I do know someone who used to do it though and it make the conversations impossible between her and her partner. She'd call his mum, mum and her own mum, mum. He did the same. So when he'd say I'm going to go and see mum she'd get confused as to who's mum he was going to see. Especially when he'd say "I'm going to go and see my mum" and then go and see her mum.
Bearing in mind that on marriage a woman traditionally adopts the rank and style of her husband, you should address your in-laws as your husband would do. The late Queen Mother always addressed Queen Mary as 'Mamma', even though they were related solely by marriage.
'ere you !

By their names. I've known them long before I got together with their son.
I called mine, Mum and Dad.
Nowt- they're dead :-)

I did however, when they were both alive, call them by their first names.
I didn't call mine anything.
Why on earth would you address your husbands parents as Mum and Dad ?

That family member is off his or her trolley Eccles !
An old Les Dawson joke comes to mind ::

"There was a knock at the door. I knew it with the wife's mother, as the mice were hurling themselves on to the traps !
The She-Devil.

I'm surprised that so far Chrissa1 is the only one to call her in-laws Mum and Dad, I had thought it was a little more wide spread.
