Hi again hc.. I have the CD here that hymie said about but when I put it into my computor and go onto computor....there is a page that comes up windows 8........Service Pack setup 2 and service pack setup 3 I have been told to double click on the service pack 2 first.... when I do this the computor makes a noise and the disc seems to be running... but it just goes on and on... Should I just leave it? will it take a long time? many thanks Brenda x
Sorry, Brenda, I have no idea. I hope Hymie sees this as he has used the disk himself.

Have you tried to install service pack 1 from here?

it says setup has detected that the service pack version of the system installed is newer thst the update you are applying to it . you cn ly install this update on service pack 1
I thought your laptop was running XP, not Windows 8.

ok I am now getting Extracting Files.... it doenst seem to have moved for ages now....oh having said that just looked and it is moving.... will let you know how I get on.. thankyou again Brenda

Oh just another thing... when I looked on propertise it said Service pack 2 so maybe I had download it after all earlier.?

Well after all this time it has downloaded until the very end and then this came up ...extraction failed date error (cyclic redundancy check)........what can I do now.? many thanks Brenda
If you can find some way of contacting me confidentially - I'll burn & send you a copy of my disk, which might help.
If it is 'data' error (not date) that is probably a fault on the cd/dvd you are downloading from.

Try it again and if it still fails ask the seller for another cd/dvd that he has checked.
Hymie wasn't there when I posted. I'd go with Hymie's suggestion :)

Thankyou both for your replies....I contacted the person who I got the dixc from and he gave me a microsoft sight to go on to check my Hard Drive...Which I have done...it did find errors. but when I put the disc in again...I did the service pack set up 2 again... which went in fine but when I tried setup 3 it went to the end nearly again and came up with the same message as before. extraction failed.....cycle redundency check..... Do you think I should get my computor looked at the computor shop.? x

I still think it is the disk that is the problem, not your hard drive.
