When reading emails on iPad Mini how do I get rid of the side bar please ?

Are you reading in portrait or landscape?

Portrait it disappears and landscape it stays.

rocky I'm such a novice at this I was not aware there is a choice. How do I select please ?

Just turn the iPad round so it's wider rather than longer, the screen will turn with it.

If the screen doesn't turn then it's probably locked. Just slide the little button above the volume controls.
