I have a HP printer that just refuses to print. It copies OK. I have changed the cartridge. I have done diagnostic reports and it says all no problems detected. My computer has been in for an update to Windows 8.1 so I am guessing that might be the problem - just supposing it is what do I do please?

Some printers aren't compatible with some versions of Windows.
You could try reinstalling the printers, but when we had this problem we had to buy a new printer.
re install, if it is not compatible with windows8 it will tell you, it may also offer you a suitable drive update to make it so !
Now is the time to consult the HP doctor.

It's so simple to download and run the HP 'Print & Scan Doctor'; which really is remarkable. :-
