can anyone advise please, i have a flagged message on computer saying that the Kaspersky databases are out of date. I installed 2014 internet security in February, it says licence valid for 285 days so why am i getting this message.

on computer programme where you see status, it says virus protection out of date, and to up date now,

Anti-virus software works by searching any incoming data for known viruses. It has a database of all known viruses which, of course, needs regular updating because people keep creating new ones. Updating the virus database is normally free and usually automatic.
As a separate entity, the software to search for viruses is licensed and can only be used for eg, a year.
It sounds like your software licence is still valid, but the database needs updating; perhaps yours doesn't do automatic updates or it has missed one for some reason.

thank you, so should i just click on update database, i am more concerned its a rogue virus update, not the Kaspersky, if you see what i mean

You should be able to "open" your Kaspersky and there will be an option in there somewhere to "update database" - click on that. I am not familiar with Kaspersky since I don't use it. Perhaps someone who does use it will see your post and give you some more specific instructions.

It could well be that Kaspersky updated its database automatically and the message you got was just it telling you it was doing it. If it says all is now up-to-date I believe there is nothing to worry about.

emmie...I use Kaspersky as well, for all my PCs. I have set it up to update whenever it thinks it should. Have a look at your preferences.

If you are still unsure open Kaspersky and start a scan. At the end of the scan it should report anything found.
This way you should be assured that your computer is clean.

Kaspersky does that then it will automatically update. Mine just automatically updates but my husband gets that message and sometimes he has to click to update other times it will do it by itself.

it seems to have done this, thanks for letting me know, i know that
the licence is valid from feb 2014.

Not at home to check but my Kaspersky updates itself on a regular basis.
I suspect if you had attempted a scan it might chedk first and inform you you can update now. But difficult to advise unless I'm at my PC. If the issue has gone I'd not worry too much about it. It may be it had problems connecting when it last tried to update but has managed to connect and download now.

Dead right Old_Geezer. If it is set for "auto updates" then it must be operational with an internet connection at the allocated time, otherwise it will ask questions later.
